My 5 Year Droid Building Anniversary

5 years!  Thats got to be a milestone or something.  January 6 2007 I ordered my first R2 part after months of research.  Now, all of those parts have been pulled apart to make way for the next big chapter in my R2 Building story.

All aluminum, welded body construction - R2.0 Droid Build
The biggest news from the last year has got to be R2.0: the complete rebuild and revisit of my R2 with friends Daren Murrer and Chris Reiff.  When its all said and done, we will have the most rugged, reliable, and hopefully accurate droids possible.  Since last year's Celebration crash, I really needed to make some changes.  Similarly, Chris wanted to build his first and Daren had ideas for improvements.  These droid are coming along nicely and will be done well before Star Wars Celebration VI.

2011 was my first Comic Con.  San Diego was everything I had hoped it would be.  What makes it great isn't just the convention happenings; in fact, I saw nearly everything I wanted to see in the first 3 days (most Star Wars events were Thursday/Friday).  What makes Comic Con great is the people; old friends from Celebration and many new ones.

Speaking of cons, DroidCon in Indianapolis was great!  If a gathering of passionate fans getting together to celebrate and share a common interest for 2 days sounds like something you would like, DroidCon was exactly the right event for you.  It should be back in 2013 after Celebration VI in 2012.

Another great fan organization event I loved in 2011 was TrooperFest in Detroit.  It was great having out with folks from garrisons around the country and spending lots of (quality) time with Chris Reiff and Chris Trevas.

The new theme to this blog should be a major hint of something on the horizon.  I have been working since November of 2010 on an idea that brings my two passions together in a big way; I hope to be able to share more news on that soon.  It truly does bring together A Long Time Ago and a Galaxy Far, Far Away....

Wow, 5 years! Congrats! I remember talking to ya on chat when you started. You and Daren have certainly given so much to the group and have continually raised the bar in terms of quality, imagination and innovation. Keep up the good work, you guys!
