While researching today, I happened upon this illustration from a 1942 General Electric advertisement. The ad, aside from promoting General Electric, promotes wartime scrapping. Even a child's toy is not safe from the wartime need for metal. The metal from that toy plane could be recycled into an actual plane and sent overseas to fight the Second World War.
