My Kind of Reading - Star Wars Reads Day October 6

This Saturday, October 6th 2012, marks the first annual Star Wars Reads day around the country.  This national celebration of reading will bring the best of Star Wars publishing to libraries, books stores, and more.  With special appearances by members of the 501st Legion, Rebel Legion, and R2 Builders Club, your local Star Wars Reads Day event is a can't miss event for Star Wars fans everywhere.

When it comes to Star Wars reading, I spend most of my time delving into Star Wars non-fiction.  Making-of books, behind the scenes accounts, and interviews with cast & crew are my favorite.  Star Wars might have taken place in a Galaxy Far, Far Away, but I love knowing about the very real and very near people behind the saga.

The past few years have been a boon to fans of Star Wars non-fiction.  J.W. Rinzler's extensively researched Making Of series (still in development for Return of the Jedi), Star Wars: The Blueprints, and The Sounds of Star Wars, are spectacular reference with stories to match extensive photo reference (or sound in the case of the later).  But don't forget about some of the classics.  A trip to your local second-hand bookstore or searching online will yield some spectacular non-fiction title dating all the way back to 1980.  Once Upon a Galaxy: A Journal of Making of The Empire Strikes Back was written by publicist Alan Arnold as he witnessed the production of the Star Wars sequel.  The book features first hand accounts of the filming of the movie, but is also filled with seemingly unrelated conversations about virtually any topic with cast and crew.  This journal even features a conversation between Arnold and director Irvin Kershner as they remember the anniversary of World War II.

So this Saturday, as you spend time at your local library or book store, don't forget about the amazing non-fiction titles in the Star Wars library.  Thats where you'll find me!  To Celebrate Star Wars Reads Day, I'll be appearing with the 501st Legion at Barnes & Noble in Bellevue, WA.
