300mm Dome - Part Six

A question that all new dome owners probably have concerns how all of the rings and hardware mount. While the complete tutorial on this has not been finished, Daren drew up a diagram that will give you an idea how it all fits together.

As you can see, the Rockler Bearing attaches to the dome using the hardware provided with the dome you ordered. This diagram will get it all connected to the ring and inner dome. The outer dome simply fits over this.

If you have any questions, I'll see if I can answer it. Just comment on here and I'll try my best.

In the (hopefully) near future there will be a full picture tutorial of this process.

UPDATE: The tutorial is now available here.

Cole,
Does the plastic ring sit completely flush with the bottom edge of the inner dome? And, the ring on the outer dome, does it need to be cut off? Or does it stay in place when gluing the domes together? When will the tutorial be available? I'm really looking forward to it!! Thanks alot Cole!!

John,
The plastic ring should sit completely flush around the bottom edge. Yes, the ring does get cut off, but I'm not sure how it reattaches yet. There is the thicker ring that you need to keep, and the little piece on the bottom that is scrap.
I hope to get over to Daren's in the future to learn about all of this and get the whole tutorial finished... not to mention get my own personal dome.

O.K., so maybe 3 or 4 spots to drill into the plastic ring should be good enough? I'm guessing that the thicker ring on the outer dome should be JB Welded to the inner. And it will probably cover the screwholes perviously mentioned. Sorry to be asking so many questions, but I have a get together on Aug. 4th, and I want to have something to bring. I also have the next week off, so I want to get as much done as possible!! You can email me if you would like, if not, then any help from you or Daren is much appreciated!!!! Thanks!!!

I just got the info you need. About four screws should do the trick. To attach the outer ring, simply use whatever you use to glue panels (JB Weld, Supper 77, etc.)

Keep those questions coming! I sure had to ask at some point, and as more domes ship even more folks will wonder the same thing.

O.K., so here comes another annoying question. In the picture, there is a spot right next to the rockler and bottom ring with a red dot in the middle of it. Is that blank space? Is the red dot a screw? I have mounted my inner ring already, but have not mounted the bottom ring as of yet. I will be bonding the domes very soon and will be mounting the bottom ring after. I also wanted to get Daniels dome baseplate in the near future. Where does Daren recommend I should place that before I go any further? I really appreciate your help!!! Thank you so much for advice, same to Daren!!!

The red dot and blank space are just parts of the Rockler bearing. As for Daniels base plate, we aren't really sure. I should fit somewhere under the white ring, but just do some test fittings to make sure.

Once you get it in, send me some pics and I'll inlcude it in the tutorial. Neither Daren or I have this piece, so you are our only hope... so to speak.

No problem!! It might not be for a few weeks though. I also watched Darens new video on AstromechBuilder as well. Thanks for the info and check out my blogspot from time to time, and I will have new updates soon. I will be bonding the domes very soon.
